Airlines especially low-fare airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet Ltd and GoAir have cut fares by as much as 15 per cent on some routes hoping to boost passenger traffic in the traditionally lean June-September monsoon season. The low-fare airlines have cut prices on the Delhi-Mumbai route from Rs.9,300 to Rs.7,900 on tickets booked up to five days in advance. On tickets booked a week in advance, these airlines have reduced their fares from Rs 7,700 to Rs.6,000 for the Delhi-Mumbai route.
SpiceJet has also introduced a new window to book tickets up to 90 days in advance, pricing these at Rs 3,379 on the same route. It is also allowing passengers to carry up to 20 kg baggage, while other airlines offer only up to 15kg. Fares on routes like Delhi-Chennai have been cut from Rs 9,800 to Rs.9,049 on average, while for the Delhi-Bangalore route the price remains unchanged at about Rs.10,000.
Air India, which offers in-flight entertainment and meals, has kept its Delhi-Mumbai fare at Rs.9,218, while Jet Airways (India), which too offers such services on some of its planes, is selling its tickets at Rs.8,742.
